Gum Disease

January 18, 2022

The leading cause of tooth loss among adults in the United States is periodontal disease. Moreover, this wide spread oral health problem has also been linked to a number of conditions that adversely affect your overall health, such as heart disease and diabetes. At Bright Smile Dental Care we emphasize the importance of prevention and early intervention to help you maintain your oral health and overall well-being. As skilled and experienced providers of care, we utilize leading-edge technology and methods to halt the onset and progress of gum disease.

Healthy teeth depend on the support and protection of healthy gums. With an effective at home regimen of oral care that is combined with visiting our office for biannual teeth cleanings and exams, we can help significantly reduce your risk of gum disease. Since, gum disease occurs when plaque gathers below the gum line, infecting and inflaming the tissues that surround the teeth, it’s important to reduce or eliminate any harmful accumulations of dental plaque. If you notice your gums are inflamed or bleed when you brush and floss, it is likely that you are exhibiting signs of gingivitis, which is the first stage of gum disease. To accurately diagnose gingivitis, our dentist will perform a comprehensive examination, assisted by advanced digital radiography and other leading edge techniques, as needed. If you are diagnosed with gingivitis, we may recommend a two part periodontal treatment called scaling and root planing. These procedures involve removing plaque from beneath the gums, then smoothing the root surfaces of teeth to prevent further buildup. You can rest assured that your smile is in the best of hands at our office. Our team delivers the most precise and gentle care, and will keep you informed and at ease throughout your visit. Treating gingivitis in its earliest stages can reverse the condition before it progresses to a more advanced stage of periodontal disease.

At Bright Smile Dental Care we provide personalized, state-of-the-art care to keep your teeth and gums healthy. With periodic visits to our dental office, we can prevent, detect and treat gum disease. To learn more or to schedule an appointment, give us a call today.
